Out: St Leonards

At the beginning of 2026, Matty organised and curated a group exhibition bringing together 29 artists whose practices push the boundaries of contemporary printmaking. Hosted at Unit 2, an artist-led space in St Leonards-on-Sea, the exhibition ran for two weeks, transforming the space into an exploration of what printmaking can become.

Titled Out: St Leonards, the exhibition took its name from both its central theme, “the outside” and the guiding principle that shaped the show: no works would be framed. Each piece existed beyond the traditional print border, occupying space on its own terms and challenging the conventions that often define print exhibitions.

The exhibition brought together an expansive range of approaches and scales. Works ranged from intimate prints on wood to monumental suspended pieces installed through experimental hanging methods. Extending far beyond paper, the exhibition incorporated sculpture, painting, video, drawing, animation, papercut, casting, and large-scale installation.

Out set out to demonstrate that printmaking is not confined to the gallery-as-showroom model that dominates much of London’s print scene. Instead, it positioned print as a dynamic, spatial, and materially diverse practice, capable of occupying, disrupting, and redefining the spaces it inhabits.
